Tree Pose
or Vrkshasana (Sanskrit), is a balancing posture in Yoga.
It requires standing on one leg, placing the sole
of the opposite foot to the inner thigh of the supporting leg, bringing the
palms to prayer position in front of the heart, then sweeping the arms
overhead, as if the arms were tree limbs.
This artist's rendition of "Tree Pose" has
the arms extending into tree branches and the bough of the tree.
On the figures' bent leg are the Sanskrit letters spelling "Vrkshasana".The
symbology and imagery of the tree, as analogous to life, is profound. We
think of our roots growing deep into the earth to keep us grounded and
stable. The strength in the core of our bodies keeps us straight and strong
to weather whatever the winds may blow our way. Our arms reach up to the
heavens for spiritual guidance and the crown of our head opens to continued
spiritual growth. Tree Pose develops concentration, coordination, balance,
poise, strength, and groundedness.
Yoga is a life science that originated in India thousands of years ago.
It is a system of personal development which connects the mind, body, and
spirit. The word Yoga means "to yoke or join together", bringing
the body
and mind into harmony. The practice of Yoga involves exercise, breathing,
and meditation. Physical exercise uses poses or postures to effect the
glandular systems resulting in improved, overall health. Breathing
techniques, or "Pranayama", help to unblock the circulatory, digestive,
respiratory, and other systems to improve health. Pranayama also helps make
us more sensitive and aware of ourselves. Meditation quiets the mind and
relieves stress.
There are many resources available for the study and the practice of Yoga.
Whatever path you choose, yoga can bring new vitality into your life.
Whether you are a practicing Yogi or an interested beginner, the symbol of
the tree is an inspiration for all who strive for balance, growth, and
centeredness in their lives.
Namaste.

Original Design By Catie Tsahalis & Linda Masselli
for Puzzle Rings By Pepi
In this piece, the figure is found in full Lotus position;
this is the classical sitting position used for meditation during extended
periods of time.
Surrounding the figure is a lotus flower.
The Lotus flower is a symbol for the potential of each and every human being.
The
Lotus emerges from the mud, journeys upward through the water,
and finally blossoms fully to reveal itself to the sun. We, as humans, follow
a similar path.
Our journey begins in the darkness of our mother's womb. As we grow, we begin
to develop
intellect, emotions, and discover our place in the world. Eventually, we
hope to blossom like the lotus as we find our connection to Spirit.
In the lotus petals are the symbols, Om Mani Padme Hum, which translates
to, "The Jewel in the Lotus".
Om represents the impure body, speech, and mind of the practitioner,
as well as, the pure body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.
Mani, or jewel, symbolizes ones intention to become enlightened,
full of love and compassion. Padme, meaning lotus, symbolizes wisdom.
The final syllable, Hum, represents indivisibility.
Lastly, one will notice the Om symbol placed near the heart on the
practitioner's sash. Om, pronounced Aum, is an ancient universal sound; know
as the original sound where all creation emerged. The belief is that all
living beings, all material objects, all languages and scriptures came from
this sound.
The letter A, represents creation, U symbolizes preservation, and M represents
destruction.
Wear this piece as a reminder to blossom to your fullest potential
with compassion, love, and grace!
